Brazilian Black Tarantula — Hobby Form
Grammostola sp. “pulchra”
The familiar Brazilian Black of the hobby: a glossy jet-black, slow-growing terrestrial Grammostola with a generally calm temperament and an uncertain taxonomic identity.
About This Species
The Brazilian Black has been maintained in captivity for decades under the name Grammostola pulchra and is instantly recognizable for its glossy jet-black appearance. Recent taxonomic work has complicated that identification, with true G. pulchra and the closely related G. quirogai now better defined. Here’s the important part: the provenance of many historical captive lines is poorly documented, so coloration alone cannot confirm their identity. ArachNeeds therefore treats this familiar captive population as the hobby form while retaining the name by which it is best known.
